英語でメール書く機会が多いけど、慣れているわけでもないので、いろいろとつまづく。ChatGPTで添削してもらいながら、ああ、こうやって書くのねφ(..)メモメモ、という感じで毎回勉強である。英語のメールの書き出しの一つに以下の決まり文句があるようだ。
I am writing to let you know…
すでにメール送ったのに、私はメールを書いているとはどういうことか？とChatGPTにたずねたところ、そうやって書くと、受け取った方は、あ、これからなんかの情報の更新があるんだな、重要なことを言おうとしているんだな、とか思うんだそうで、普通によく使われる書き出しなんだと説明された。大体メールは非同期なんだから、I am writingと書いたところで、私みたいな子供じみたことはみんな思わないでしょ、ということか。
